The Design Engineering Team (DE) at Hallmark is a center of excellence for product engineering across Hallmark Global. We collaborate with key internal and external partners around the world to innovate and build future capabilities for Hallmark.


Design engineers are the capability architects and builders that enable our creative counterparts to bring their artistic visions to life. We help deliver strong consumer experiences, product quality, cost-management, and design for manufacturability throughout every stage of the product discovery and development process.


We're hiring a product Engineer to support our growing Keepsake Ornaments business. Come join a team that has years of success emotionalizing technology as we explore and create new ways to engage and delight our consumers with heartfelt, fun, and interactive holiday products!



As a design engineer for Keepsakes, you will be responsible for partnering with a cross-disciplinary team on format, capability, and experience development for the Christmas and everyday ornament category. You will have oversight of the engineering requirements that bring these products to life by:


  • Being the primary resource responsible for providing the technical expertise needed to discover, inspire and develop new ornament products.
  • Designing solutions that overcome technical and cost challenges within the ornament category.
  • Providing engineering guidance and direction from initial concept through product creation and manufacturing.
  • Developing specifications and directing/producing the completion of technical documents, pre-costs, bid packs and prototypes based on criteria provided by the Keepsakes product development team.
  • Partnering with outside vendors and external technical and innovation resources.

The following is required to be considered for this role: 

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of Engineering work experience
  • 1 year of experience in an engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial); this can include internships, apprenticeships, on campus work/study, and/or full time employment
  • Experience using CAD/3D modeling software (ie: Solidworks)



Your resume and portfolio/application will stand out if you have: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Plastics/Materials Engineering
  • 2+ experience in consumer goods, toy or other related product development
  • AutoCad/Solid Works experience.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles, electrical/mechanical design, molding and materials.
  • Experience with product costing tools, working with creative teams, and familiarity with working with Asia supply chain.
  •  Strong collaboration and communication skills, problem solving and decision making skills.



This is a hybrid role based out of Hallmark's headquarters location in Kansas City, MO. This is a progressive role that will be filled at the level aligned with the skills and experience of the selected candidate.
