Package Engineering is within the Product Integrity organization and collaborates with a variety of teams across divisions. We leverage global resources to deliver compelling packaging solutions by combining business needs, consumer needs, and creative aspirations with existing and emerging capabilities. Package Engineering is comprised of a team of both packaging engineers and specialists that support product lines within Greetings, Gift Presentation, Packaged Expressions and Retail Product Development Divisions.



The Package Engineer plays a critical role in connecting the dots between creative, marketing, manufacturing, and distribution, creating packaging solutions for all of Hallmark’s major product lines. This includes greeting cards, gift wrap, bags and tissue, stationery and boxed cards, gifts, and ornaments. The Engineer must be able to blend form and function, creative and technical, as well as cost, manufacturability, and ship-ability. The ability to develop specifications and direct the completion of technical drawings and prototypes based on product development criteria is key. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of retail, wholesale and shipper carton packaging solutions as well as pallet configurations and layouts.  Ability to design technical drawings in AutoCAD is preferred.  


The Package Engineer also needs to have knowledge of packaging raw materials including sustainable solutions with a focus on paper and film materials.  This position works collaboratively with both our domestic suppliers as well as foreign buying office to problem solve and ensure functionality, quality, cost and design integrity for the final solution.  It is a position that works collaboratively across the company working end to end from concept conception to the solutions end of life.   



The following is required to be considered for this role: 

  •   Bachelor's in Packaging Science OR Engineering, OR at least 2 years experience in the Package Engineering field



Your resume and portfolio/application will stand out if you have: 

  • AutoCAD and CasePack (or similar) software experience

  • Successful experience as a project leader demonstrating initiative and leadership

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Strong materials knowledge

  • Strong package structure design understanding and experience (retail, wholesale and shipping)

  • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time to manufacturing plants and supplier facilities

  • To be successful in this role, the incumbent must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team of people with diverse skill backgrounds. Short deadlines are common; must be able to work under pressure. Energy and enthusiasm for new product development is essential.



This is a progressive role that will be filled at the level based on the skills and experience of the selected candidate.

This is a hybrid position, combining office and work from home time. Hallmark's headquarters is located in Kansas City, MO.
