OVERVIEW:

The Hallmark Internal Audit department offers a unique opportunity for team members to provide independent and effective assurance over the risks that threaten the achievement of the company's objectives and promote continuous improvement and partnering for management's success.  We work with personnel throughout all the business units and geographic locations of the organization.  There is no better way to get exposure to all the Hallmark businesses than through Internal Audit!

THE INTERNAL AUDIT MANAGER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

The Internal Audit Manager has the following responsibilities:

  • Help ensure effective governance and internal controls across Hallmark's portfolio of businesses through thoughtful, risk-based audits and consulting projects.
  • Promote effective controllership, finance, and IT practices.
  • Develop the annual Internal Audit Plan
  • Leads internal audit teams that conduct financial, operational and information technology audits. 
  • Coordinates all aspects of the audit including planning, fieldwork, and reporting of results. 
  • Communicates results to stakeholders and ensure their understanding of the underlying issues and expected remediation.
  • To effectively perform these responsibilities, the professional must display an understanding of the diverse businesses that Hallmark operates and must know how to manage conflict and resolve audit findings.

 

The work performed by this position is highly visible to Hallmark's most senior executives and is regularly communicated to functional and executive management.  This communication includes the Audit Committee, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and external auditors.

 

An essential function of Internal Audit at Hallmark is to provide training and coaching of auditors.  This mentorship helps develop the professional skills that auditors will use over the course of their career.  Accordingly, the Internal Audit manager will effectively mentor department members on career tracks to help staff members achieve fullest potential.  The manager will not only complete formal performance evaluations, but also will provide consistent and meaningful informal performance feedback.  The position will assist the Vice President –Internal Audit in determining and making hiring decisions. 

 

Finally, the position is expected to promote a healthy team environment and solicit participation from all team members during audit work. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide key insights into the development of the annual Internal Audit Plan and lead internal audit teams that conduct financial, operational and information technology audits.  Coordinates all aspects of the audit including:  planning, fieldwork, and reporting of results.  This requires an understanding of the diverse businesses that Hallmark operates. 
  • Must show tact and diplomacy as audits are conducted, while managing audits and subsequent findings. Must be able to effectively deal with conflict and respond appropriately.
  • Communicate/report results of audit work to area and executive management.  This communication includes the Audit Committee, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and external auditors.
  • Provide training and coaching of auditors to develop professional skills.  Mentor department members on career tracks that will help the staff members achieve fullest potential.  Complete formal performance evaluations and provide consistent and meaningful informal performance feedback.  Assists the Director in determining and making hiring decisions.  Promotes team environment and solicits participation from all team members during audit work.
  • Must be current on accounting and audit compliance and understand applicable laws and company policies that affect the outcome of audits. Requires excellent writing and communications skills. Follow up audit work to assure that proposed solutions have been implemented.  Know how to address audit findings and solutions that have not been acted upon.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

The following is required to be considered for this role:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management Information Systems and 5 years of work experience
  • 3 years of mid-level management experience at Hallmark or similar internal audit experience externally.
  • Must understand internal audit procedures and GAAP accounting requirements.
  • Ability to identify issues and recommend resolutions to audit findings
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and Excel
  • Deals well with ambiguity

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in accounting
  • Experience with the Oracle/Hyperion Suite (ESSBASE, HFM, Planning)
  • Experience with financial/accounting reporting
  • Strong people skills - able to work effectively with a diverse mix of customers
  • Ability to travel occasionally domestically and Internationally

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Some International and North American travel is required.
