OVERVIEW:

Hallmark's Enterprise Legal Division is seeking a paralegal with expertise in intellectual property and licensing to join our team. We support the core businesses of Hallmark Cards, Incorporated parent to Hallmark’s greeting and gifts business, along with and its foreign and domestic subsidiaries, including Crayola and Crown Media Family Networks, and are valued business partners in helping to both grow and protect our businesses. THE LICENSING PARALEGAL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR:

The Licensing Paralegal will be responsible for supporting the licensing of trademarks and copyrights in the US and internationally and assisting with the enforcement of our intellectual property. The primary responsibility is to assist internal business partners by drafting license agreements, distribution agreements, amendments, renewals, terminations, and other related documents under attorney supervision.

As part of the intellectual property team:

  • The Licensing Paralegal will also work with the attorneys on the prosecution and defense of intellectual property matters and may assist with global trademark portfolio management, including reviewing periodic watch notices, collecting evidence of trademark use, filing documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the United States Copyright Office and communicating with local counsel around the world.
  • A successful candidate will deliver high quality work product and demonstrates the ability to work independently and think strategically. As an integral part of licensing and international distribution teams outside of the Legal Division, the Licensing Paralegal must be able to communicate professionally and work collaboratively.
  • This position will report to the Deputy General Counsel, Intellectual Property, Product and Trade Compliance and will work under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsel and Assistant General Counsels in our intellectual property group.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 + years of paralegal or equivalent experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree, or certificate in legal studies or comparable program.
  • Experience with licensing and/or distribution agreements.
  • Experience with trademarks and copyrights.
  • Experience with the preparation and review of contracts and amendments.
  • In-house  experience is preferred.
  • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written, to work with internal business clients.
  • Experience with license management systems, such as Alliant or DRM, or trademark management systems, such as WebTMS.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work product
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to organize and successfully manage and complete simultaneous projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong people skills – able to work effectively and collaboratively with different teams.
