A Retail Visual Merchandising Publications Specialist to join our Visual Merchandising team.



Hallmark's Retail Visual Merchandising team strives to create a compelling store environment that is a beacon for the brand and sets the gold standard in specialty retailing. This team is responsible for all aspects of the retail shopping experience, including displays, fixtures, store layout, physical environment, in-store music, and more across the network of specialty card/gift stores, hardware stores, and hospital gift shops. The work that this team produces provides the Gold Crown customer with a consistent, high energy and recognizable retail experience that is unmistakably Hallmark.



The Retail Visual Merchandise Publications Specialist is responsible for creating planograms, display layouts, guides and other visual merchandising execution materials for the Hallmark specialty retail network. Working with the retail visual merchandising communications manager and/or visual associates, the publications specialist develops a variety of compelling visual display materials necessary to implement consistent programs across the many sizes and layouts of retail stores, including new concept stores, hardware, and hospitals.


You must possess strong creative design skills, visual merchandising expertise, product presentation techniques, and the ability to understand and apply Hallmark retail strategy. Consumer insights, category expertise, understanding of the retail environment, operational acumen, fixture knowledge, and awareness of industry trends and norms are also required. The publications specialist produces work that aligns to Hallmark retail strategy and accurately and consistently reflects the design direction for each period and program. You must have the ability to produce work that not only enhances and supports the specific product offerings, but also conveys a compelling and consistent consumer experience in line with overall brand and retail strategies.

The following is required to be considered for this role:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 years of professional work experience in one or more of the following: graphic design, page layout, instruction writing, or technical writing
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)

  • Communication skills - Strong verbal and written skills; communicates intent and execution requirements through effective documentation
  • Artwork Creation - Creates compelling design solutions that meet brand and program strategies while enhancing the retail marketplace; solutions effectively communicate to end users in a retail environment through color, typography, and pattern development
  • Industry Awareness – Strong understanding of and affinity for the specialty retail industry
  • Brand Awareness – Understands and embraces the Hallmark Retail brand essence; consistently and effectively aligns personal behaviors and work outputs to deliver on the brand promise          
  • Resource Management – Delivers solutions that meet schedule, cost, and quality standards; high attention to the overall cost (including implementation costs) of solutions developed
  • Collaboration - Works effectively with others; able to work collaboratively to develop optimal solutions
