AN OVERVIEW

The Leavenworth Section Manager directs and coordinates activities concerned with production of products, distribution of products, and tooling.  The Section Manager supervises up to 25 Hallmark employees at one of Hallmark's manufacturing plants (with additional agency employees added during peaks).  They also oversee the scheduling and assignment of work, and verifies that production, serviceability, cost, and quality standards are met.  The Section Manager ensures good housekeeping practices and positive employee relations are maintained, and that safety regulations are followed.  This person is responsible for providing the customer with the right product at the right time within the cost target.

 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

Some of the responsibilities of the Section Manager include:

  • Meet or exceed departmental objectives by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; and initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
  • Provide feedback, written and verbal, that accurately reflect the performance of each individual employee   
  • Establish team priorities, make work assignments for personnel, and monitor the progress of team results
  • Revise schedules within their area of oversight
  • Accomplish departmental goals and report results of their assigned work area
  • Maintain staff by anticipating personnel requirements, looking for out-of-the box solutions to handle peak needs, and keeping management apprised of those needs. 
  • Participate in interviewing, assessing talent, orienting, and training employees; develops personal growth opportunities
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and is regarded as Subject Matter Expert (SME).  Is seen as a credible source of information and is sought out for this expertise    
  • Act as a representative of Hallmark to their direct reports and is the resource direct reports seek out.  Knowledgeable regarding company policies and any governmental laws/regulations across the various functional areas:  Environmental, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, (such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, OSHA standards, etc.) that affects the work group and assures compliance with those regulations

 

The Section Manager position may be filled at a Section Manager level I, II, or III, depending on experience.  This position would work between 1st shift and 2nd shift depending where the need is.  In instances where their manager is absent, the incumbent would be expected to work 2nd shift.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

The following is required to be considered for this role:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Associate's degree OR minimum of 3 years supervising direct reports
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Your resume and portfolio/application will stand out if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree  - preferably in supply chain, engineering, or production operations
  • Experience utilizing LEAN Principles in a manufacturing and / or distribution environment
  • Experience managing in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Experience with equipment and/or building maintenance
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills –includes  both verbal and written 
  • SAP knowledge and experience
  • Project management experience
  • Adept at seeing opportunities to improve upon the status quo and implementing solutions
