The Greetings Production Facility in Lawrence, Kansas is a fast paced production environment that produces greeting cards. Disciplines within the plant include the Production Team as well as Production Art, Production Planning, Engineering, and Plant and Facilities Maintenance. The Greetings Plant priorities are to exceed our customer’s expectations in timing and quality while significantly reducing cycle times and reducing our total cost of product. A disciplined problem solving approach, using a PDCA/A3 tools, by our engaged leadership team and operators is essential to achieving our lead time and cost reduction targets.


We are a team of engineers and technicians delivering attractive new capabilities across the supply chain that accelerate growth throughout our business. Our solutions are essential to delivering on Hallmark's top initiatives. We research, design, and implement automated processes unique in the industry and key to our company's continuing success.


Our mechanical engineers are responsible for the design and development of complex production and fulfillment equipment. They participate in the conceptualization of solutions, collaboration with peers, specification of performance, and integration within the operating environment. They create machine part and assembly drawings as required for fabrication, installation, and maintenance of equipment. They lead prototyping, assembly, and executional evaluation.  They are also accountable for managing capital spending, designing systems, networking with our end-users, partnering with external suppliers and consultants, procuring parts, adhering to aggressive schedules, and working closely with our technician team. Their roles in implementation, start-up, troubleshooting, modification, documentation, and training are essential to our success.


This is an advancement position that will be filled at a I, II or III depending on candidate background and experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years professional work experience in an engineering role with at least 2 years of machine design



  • Experience designing mechanical automation equipment
  • Experience with robotics and motion control systems utilizing servo motor or pneumatic power
  • Proficiency in use of CAD systems such as Solid Edge for modeling and drawing creation
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards related to machine guarding and safety requirements
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Success at balancing individual work with team-oriented projects
  • Characteristically self-motivated and enthusiastic about moving work forward
  • Flexible to adapt and adjust to changing requirements, and to navigate through ambiguous situations
  • Enjoyment from challenges of innovation and starting from a clean slate
  • Success with engaging others to advance our work, and building partnerships with people across our business and external
  • Good communication skills – written and verbal
