WHO WE ARE:

The Greetings Production Facility in Lawrence, Kansas is a fast paced production environment that produces greeting cards. Disciplines within the plant include the Production Team as well as Production Art, Production Planning, Engineering, and Plant and Facilities Maintenance. The Greetings Plant priorities are to exceed our customer’s expectations in timing and quality while significantly reducing cycle times and reducing our total cost of product. A disciplined problem solving approach, using a PDCA/A3 tools, by our engaged leadership team and operators is essential to achieving our lead time and cost reduction targets.

ABOUT THE ROLE: 

The Lawrence Section Manager directs and coordinates activities concerned with production of product(s), distribution of products, and tooling.  The Section Manager leads up to 35 Hallmark employees (with additional agency employees added during peaks), oversees the scheduling and assignment of work, and verifies that production, serviceability, cost, and quality standards are met.  The Section Manager ensures good housekeeping practices and positive employee relations are maintained, and that safety regulations are followed.  The incumbent also provides the customer with the right product at the right time within the cost target.

This Section Manager position in Lawrence is for 3rd shift (11:30 pm - 8:00 am), Monday through Friday.

THE SECTION MANAGER - LAWRENCE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR: 

  • Meets or exceeds departmental objectives by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.  Provides feedback, written and verbal, that accurately reflects the performance of each individual employee.     
  • Makes work assignments to personnel; accomplishing work results; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; identifying and resolving problems; reporting results of the area. 
  • Maintains staff by anticipating personnel requirements, looks for out-of-the box solutions to handle peak needs and keeps management apprised of those needs.  Participates in interviewing, assessing talent, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Demonstrates strong technical knowledge and is regarded as Subject Matter Expert (SME).  Is seen as a credible source of information and is sought out for this expertise.    
  • Acts as a representative of Hallmark to their direct reports and is the resource direct reports seek out.  Knowledgeable regarding company policies and any governmental laws/regulations across the various functional areas:  Environmental, Safety, Human Resources, Finance, (such as Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, OSHA standards, etc.) that affects the work group and assures compliance with those regulations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

The following is required to be considered for this role:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 3+ years supervising direct reports OR Associates Degree or higher 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Your resume will stand out if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree  - preferably in supply chain, engineering, or production operations
  • Experience managing in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Experience with equipment and/or building maintenance
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills –includes  both verbal and written 
  • SAP knowledge and experience
  • Project management experience
  • Adept at seeing opportunities to improve upon the status quo and implementing solutions
  • Familiarity with principles of LEAN

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: 

This position is located in our Lawrence Greetings Production Facility. Relocation is not provided.
