The Flexo Print Technician in Leavenworth, Kansas is on 1st shift (7:30 am to 4 pm), Monday through Friday.  This position reports through the Leavenworth Production Center in the Printing Department.  The department consists of machinery that is capable of printing Giftwrap, tissue, stickers, labels and Crayola products at high speeds. 

 

Provides technical assistance and technical training to support the wide-web Flexographic workflow needs in the printing department. Actively supports Process Control system, approves printed reproduction of color targets, and assists in print-related quality assessments (pass/fail). As a technical expert, works to maximize both product quality and process efficiencies while also minimizing spoilage and cost.  Focused on making those around them better by sharing expertise and building competency in others.  Will function as Lead Printing Operator on a flexo press on a limited basis.

 

In this position, you will:

  • Be the subject matter expert in flexo printing, i.e flexography equipment, inks, substrates, pre-press, and the printing process to area staff.  Troubleshoots equipment and print issues.  Determines press speed to ensure efficient operation.  Interprets job specifications/instructions and makes adjustments to either: materials, tooling, equipment or ink to meet the job specifications. Approves color okays to established quality guidelines.
  • Apply and transfer your knowledge through job coaching and professional technical education to the printing staff.  Provides leadership, training, and development to printing staff. Assists printing staff to  improve make-ready and production performance, waste ink usage/reduction, and to develop the competency to be able to approve color okays to established quality standards. Executes quality system.
  • Complete special projects that improve press operations. These projects require direct communication within the company and with outside vendors. Responsible for identifying opportunities and facilitating process improvements.  Involves press personnel in the problem solving process to assure maximum participation. Cultivates creativity in others and elicits answers to difficult technical problems by asking key questions. The ultimate goal is to make press personnel as knowledgeable and proficient as the Flexo Print Technician.
  • Work closely with vendors, customers and technical persons to develop new product or redesign current product which would result in increased sales to present and new customers. Work closely with the business unit partners in this endeavor.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a wide web flexo print environment
  • Ability to pass a color perception test
  • Ability to grasp, lift and carry items weighing up to 25-50 lbs. frequently
  • Ability to stand and walk 95% of the time
  • Ability to frequently reach, twist, bend, and perform repetitive hand/wrist motion and fine motor skills
  • Ability to frequently work in awkward, cramped, and difficult positions
  • Ability to regularly work at or above shoulder level
      

Preferred Qualifications Needed:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Lead Press operator on wide web, 8 color, CI flexo printing press. Strong Preference for experience to be printing giftwrap using water based inks with use of photopolymer plates and sleeves.
  • Has working knowledge of flexo pre-press functions to include art file preparation and photopolymer plate making/mounting
  • Demonstrated strong mechanical skills and computer skills
  • Possess good knowledge of inks, solvents, color, substrates and their affect in printing and attaining the correct reproduction of product – specifically water based inks and/or wide web
  • Experience training new printing press operators & support personnel
  • Experience managing a work group
  • Ability to lead and provide direction to the assistant press operator and utility helper to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment
  • Self-directed and self-motivated with a proven work ethic and ability to perform under pressure to reorganize and change directions when necessary
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge

 
Additional Details:

  • There is some noise and hearing protection is required by Hallmark
  • This is a production environment that requires wearing appropriate PPE and following operating procedures when working with hazardous chemicals, moving press equipment, and working with sharp objects. 
  • Work overtime as required during peak seasons 
      
    This position is located in Leavenworth, Kansas.  Relocation is not provided.
