THE CATEGORY ADVISOR - WALMART: bridges insights, analytics, and category management, serving as an advisor to the Walmart Merchandising Department(s) in support of shopper insights, assortment, modular shelf development, replenishment, analytics, and other related services that support category objectives and grow category sales/share.


This role is responsible for both Hallmark and competitive information and requires a level of confidentiality that is consistent with the Walmart Category Advisor Services Agreement.



  • Development of category strategies that result in total overall category and customer market share growth directly with the Merchant(s) Modular Manager(s) and Financial Planner(s) for the categories assigned.
  • Lead overall understanding of the category, customer and competitive dynamics, shopper needs and behavior and key variables affecting performance.
  • Lead the development of mod execution with the relevant organizations to enable successful implementation of all key strategies. Translates this understanding into strategies that optimizes product assortment and shelf productivity
  • Thorough understanding of the chain’s retail practices and target consumer as well as the social expression industry.
  • Leads category data analysis (and associated support staff) used to formulate strategies for the total category.
  • Synthesizes data from multiple sources to create a common understanding of key performance indicators and product grouping (EDW, Retail Link, IRI) and the continued development of industry leading insights that deliver category results.
  • Active evaluation of marketplace and shopper behavior that directly impact the Walmart consumer and the category.

The following is required to be considered for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Business, Marketing, Finance or Statistics or related field. 
  • 5+ years of category management experience and experience working with the Walmart chain or a comparable chain. 



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Agile approach to the work in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Ability to influence business outcomes with a data and insights-based approach
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop talent
