The Greetings Production Center in Lawrence, Kansas is a fast-paced, three shift manufacturing environment that produces Hallmark’s greeting cards and other specialty products.  We bring Hallmark’s creative concepts to life by making the products that help people live more caring, connected lives full of meaningful moments!  The production center’s priorities include delivering outstanding product quality & service, while simultaneously reducing cycle times and our total cost of product.  We drive business performance through a focus on operational excellence, employee engagement, and Lean improvement focus across our teams.


The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for leading a team of 6-10 operations supervisors that have responsibility for 150-250 production team members across three shifts.  The Operations Manager provides guidance to their direct team while actively collaborating with peers to produce and ship products with quality, cost and service objectives in a short cycle manufacturing environment.  They also drive strategic lean initiatives to improve performance of their area, ultimately impacting overall plant KPIs.


Responsibilities include:

  • Develops and implementing strategies that support overall plant and company goals – and communicate those goals to area personnel
  • Drives a culture of strong employee engagement, bringing the best out of people and teams to deliver business results and ensure Hallmark’s positive culture is strong within the workplace. 
  • Utilizes lean principles and problem-solving techniques to engage employees in finding ways to systematically eliminate waste and to continuously improve processes and workflow.
  • Drives a strong safety mindset & culture to ensure a safe work environment for all employees.  Lead managers and employees to proactively eliminate hazards to ensure a safe work environment.  Ensure full compliance to all OSHA and company safety/EHS standards and practices.
  • Develops and executes to area budgets and take appropriate action to ensure expenditures are within established limits
  • Acts as a representative of Hallmark to direct and indirect reports on all significant personnel and business activities; Models and holds other accountable for required leadership behaviors.
  • Supports & advance Hallmark’s diversity & inclusion priorities.
  • Develops relationships with key business partners.
  • Coach operations supervisors and other exempt employees in performance management and talent development
  • Leads large group of people through changes/ambiguity coming at an ever-increasing pace

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5+ years’ operational and/or supply chain management experience
  • 2+ years’ experience directly managing employees
  • Financial acumen / budgetary experience
  • Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


  • Experience managing in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment
  • Strong and proven analytical skills
  • Ability to influence and coach up
  • Experience in performance management systems
  • Experience in organizational design & change management
  • Strong balance between Emotional Intelligence & IQ
  • Experience with equipment and/or building maintenance
  • Ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • SAP knowledge and experience
  • Project management experience
  • Adept at seeing opportunities to improve upon the status quo and implementing solutions
  • Demonstrated lean experience
  • Self-motivated, with high energy and an engaging level of enthusiasm
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
